Straight ahead & Pose-to-Pose
Straight ahead
This is the term used when we just start to animate without planning the key frames and see how it turns out. Fast crazy action scenes are usually drawn straight ahead as they are more spontanious.
Advantages
- There is a natural flow within the animation
- It shows improvisation - Creative - Shows spontanious thoughts about the story |
Disadvantages
- The story can easily wander
- Timing may not e great, resulting in longer shots - Characters & objects do not stay a consistant size - in a proffesional enviroment, this is costly - Very time consuming |
Pose-To-pose
This is a planned structured way of animating. Once you work out yuor key frames (most important positions), you can then fill in the gaps, ensuring you keep all your frames numbered as you go along. This way is usually easier if the key animator is to be handing over the animation to the assistant to fill in the inbetween frames.
Advantages
- Clarity within the animation
- All positions are more readable - Keep closely to the timing - Easy to assist - Kept within budget - More time can be spent on careful planning of the scene |
Disadvantages
- There is no flow to the working method as you will always be looking within key frames
- The animations can be too literal meaning no superise |
