Timing
Timing allows animation to have a realistic feel so that the audience is able to relate to the movement. Key frames are used to control the timing of a sequence when the key frames are closer together action is slower so when they are further away action it's faster. Timing is also important to show how an object moves realistically showing the laws of motion- inertia, constant motion, action and reaction. It essentially gives meaning to motion.

In this example, timing is used to emphasize the character's movement. It shows the weight of the objects and the way in which Tom and Jerry interact with each other. Other principles such as exaggeration and staging enhance the movements but timing is what all principles are based on. |
